Hands-On Construction Experience at Citrus Training

On 26th March, a small group of learners from Isebrook School took part in an exciting and immersive visit to Citrus Training, where they explored the world of construction first-hand.

The visit provided learners with valuable insight into the construction industry, including the wide range of career opportunities available. Learners had the chance to speak directly with industry professionals, asking questions and gaining a deeper understanding of what different roles involve on a real working site.

What made the experience particularly impactful was how hands-on the day was. Learners worked with CAT and Genny equipment, learning how to safely locate underground utilities such as pipes and electrical cables, an essential skill in construction. They also took part in a confined space activity, observed demonstrations of machinery including a telehandler and excavator, and even had the opportunity to sit inside the equipment themselves.

It was an engaging and inspiring day, with so much to explore that we could easily have spent even longer there.

Learners represented the school brilliantly throughout the visit. They were fully engaged, asked thoughtful and insightful questions, and impressed the professionals with their knowledge and enthusiasm when put on the spot. It was fantastic to see their confidence grow in such a real-world environment.

This opportunity was made possible through Build UK’s Open Doors initiative, which gives young people behind-the-scenes access to the construction industry and highlights the wide range of careers available.

Experiences like this play a vital role in helping learners understand future pathways, build confidence, and develop a clearer picture of the opportunities available to them beyond education.

A huge thank you to Citrus Training and everyone involved in delivering such a valuable and memorable experience for our learners.
