Growing Connections Through Community: Isebrook Learners Begin Their Journey with Countryside Kitchen
We believe some of the most powerful learning happens when learners step beyond the classroom and into their local community. By working alongside organisations that share our values, we can create meaningful experiences that develop confidence, spark curiosity and help learners build valuable life skills.
One of our newest partnerships is with Countryside Kitchen, where learners from across Isebrook and Wren Spinney school have recently enjoyed their first introductory visit as part of the immersive Grow, Cook, Eat, Discover programme.
From the moment they arrived, learners received a warm welcome from Milly and the team, who made everyone feel at ease and excited to begin exploring everything the farm had to offer.
The visit gave learners the opportunity to experience farming and food production in a hands-on and engaging way.
They met the farm's goats, cows and chickens, learning about how animals are cared for and the important role they play in food production. The team also shared fascinating facts about the different products that come from cattle, helping learners make connections between farming, food and everyday life.
One of the highlights of the morning was a fun "What's in the Box?" sensory challenge, encouraging learners to use their senses to explore a range of natural materials. Activities like this provide excellent opportunities to develop communication, problem-solving and confidence in a way that is both accessible and enjoyable.
Learners also planted their own seeds, giving them something to nurture and look forward to watching grow over the coming weeks.
The group then visited the classroom where future sessions will take place, helping learners become familiar with the environment ahead of their return visits.
Experiences like these are about so much more than learning where food comes from.
They support learners to develop independence, communication skills and confidence while encouraging them to engage with new environments and meet new people. They also provide opportunities to connect learning with real-life experiences, making education meaningful and memorable.
Over the coming months, learners will continue taking part in the Grow, Cook, Eat, Discover programme, developing practical skills, learning more about food, farming and sustainability, and continuing to build their confidence through real-world experiences.
