Daventry Hill School Achieves 100% Of The Gatsby Benchmarks

We are delighted to celebrate a significant achievement at Daventry Hill School, which has successfully achieved 100% of the Gatsby Benchmarks for careers education.

This accomplishment reflects years of dedication, creativity and commitment to ensuring every learner has access to meaningful, personalised and high-quality preparation for their future.

What Are the Gatsby Benchmarks?

Developed by The Gatsby Foundation, the Gatsby Benchmarks are recognised as the national framework for good careers guidance. They provide a clear structure to help schools and colleges deliver careers programmes that prepare young people for their next steps, whether that be further education, training, employment or independent living.

The eight benchmarks focus on areas such as employer encounters, workplace experiences, linking curriculum learning to careers, personal guidance, and ensuring young people understand the full range of opportunities available to them.

Achieving 100% demonstrates that careers education is not treated as a standalone activity at Daventry Hill School, it is embedded throughout the learner journey.

Starting Early and Thinking Creatively

One of the strengths of Daventry Hill School's approach is that future readiness begins from the earliest stages of education.

Through initiatives such as the school's Career Detective Programme, primary-aged learners are encouraged to explore the world around them, discover different sectors and begin developing aspirations in an engaging and accessible way.

By introducing careers-related learning early, learners can begin to understand how their interests, strengths and skills connect to opportunities in the wider world. This is done through  sensory and practical experiences.

This creative approach continues throughout the school, ensuring careers education develops naturally as learners grow and progress.

Enterprise for Everyone

Enterprise plays a key role in helping learners develop confidence, independence and transferable skills.

At Daventry Hill School, all learners have opportunities to participate in enterprise activities that develop communication, teamwork, problem-solving, money management and customer service skills.

These experiences help bring learning to life and provide practical opportunities for learners to apply their knowledge in real-world contexts.

Importantly, enterprise is not viewed simply as fundraising or selling products. It is about helping learners understand their own strengths, develop confidence and build the skills that will support them throughout adulthood. Daventry Hill School has enterprise fayres twice a year, where they look forward to opening their doors and showing the wonderful work they are doing.

The Power of Partnerships

A major contributor to the school's success is the strong network of employers, organisations and community partners that support learners throughout their educational journey.

Daventry Hill School works closely with local businesses and organisations to create meaningful encounters that help learners explore different industries, meet professionals, develop workplace skills and gain valuable experiences beyond the classroom.

These partnerships help learners understand the opportunities available to them while challenging misconceptions about what young people with SEND can achieve.

The school's employer engagement programme continues to grow, creating opportunities that are tailored to the individual needs and aspirations of learners. With this in mind, they are always on the look out for organisations who would like to get involved and would love to hear from you.

Putting Learners at the Centre

Perhaps the most important factor behind this achievement is the school's commitment to placing learners at the centre of everything it does.

Every learner's journey is unique. Rather than adopting a one-size-fits-all approach, Daventry Hill School takes time to understand each learner's interests, strengths, aspirations and support needs.

This personalised approach ensures that future readiness education is meaningful, relevant and ambitious for every young person.

The result is a programme that focuses not simply on destinations, but on helping learners develop the confidence, independence and skills needed to thrive in adulthood.

Positive Outcomes That Matter

This commitment is reflected in the outcomes achieved by learners.

We are incredibly proud that Daventry Hill School has achieved 100% positive transitions for its Year 11 and 13 learners, ensuring every young person has moved on to a destination that is right for them.

Whether progressing into further education, training, supported internships, employment pathways or other personalised destinations, these transitions represent the culmination of years of careful planning, support and partnership working.

A Team That Makes It Happen

Behind every successful future readiness programme is a dedicated team, and Daventry Hill School is fortunate to have a passionate and committed future readiness team who work tirelessly to create opportunities for learners, led by Louise Worts.

Their creativity, determination and belief in every young person's potential have been instrumental in achieving this milestone.

Achieving 100% of the Gatsby Benchmarks is an outstanding accomplishment, but more importantly, it represents something far greater: a commitment to ensuring every learner has the opportunity to explore their future, develop their aspirations and move confidently towards adulthood.

Congratulations to everyone involved in this fantastic achievement. It is a testament to the school's vision, partnerships, staff and, most importantly, its incredible learners.
