Learners from Creating Tomorrow College in Wellingborough recently had the opportunity to visit The Lewis Foundation, spending time supporting the charity’s incredible work for people undergoing cancer treatment.
During the session, learners worked together to pick and pack items that will go into the Foundation’s well-known gift bags. These gift bags are distributed to adult cancer patients in hospitals across the Midlands and beyond, offering small comforts during what can be an incredibly difficult time.
The activity quickly became more than just a practical task. Learners showed fantastic teamwork and focus throughout the session, fully engaging with the process and taking real care with the items they were preparing. Several learners commented that they found the experience both therapeutic and meaningful.
One of the most powerful reflections from the group was the feeling that they were able to give something back to the community. Learners shared that they felt proud to be involved in supporting people who may be going through some of the toughest moments in their lives.
The visit was made even more special thanks to the warm welcome from Natalie and Linda at The Lewis Foundation, who created a relaxed and positive environment for the learners. Their encouragement helped make the experience enjoyable and rewarding for everyone involved. Natalie later shared that the learners’ positivity made her smile and brought real happiness to the day.
The students were also proud to talk about the ways they have already supported the Foundation through fundraising, and they loved being able to contribute in such a practical way during their visit.
The day was a very positive experience for the learners, who represented Creating Tomorrow College with enthusiasm, kindness and pride.
Partnerships like this demonstrate the power of community collaboration. The team at The Lewis Foundation shared how much they value the growing relationship with Creating Tomorrow Trust, saying:
“I love our partnership and love working with you all. I’m so pleased to see this opportunity coming to fruition.”
- Lorriane Lewis, Founder of The Lewis Foundation
The collaboration is continuing to grow. Learners from Isebrook School are currently taking part in the £50 Challenge with Franklins Solicitors LLP, raising funds for The Lewis Foundation. Other sites across the trust are also planning visits similar to this one, and there are exciting community projects being explored.
The Lewis Foundation and the work they are doing, is very close to many of our learners' and staff hearts. We are passionate about allowing our learners to see the importance of 'paying it forward' and giving back to support the wider community. We love nothing more than seeing our sites come together to work collaboratively for a shared purpose and goal.
This is just the beginning, and we’re looking forward to seeing what comes next.
