As we wrap up another term, here is a sneak peek into what Daventry Hill School work experience programme has consisted of this term. Students have continued to settle in and make valuable contributions across a range of local placements.

At Simply, Joe and Shreya have now completed a full term and have settled in brilliantly, gaining confidence and learning key workplace skills. Meanwhile, Joe and Max continue their placement at the local food bank on Wednesdays, and Stanley and Thomas have joined on Fridays. Students are actively supporting staff to prepare food parcels for families in need, and are now at a stage where they can assemble parcels independently, demonstrating responsibility and attention to detail.

Over at Staverton Park Hotel, learners have had another busy and successful term. Students including Malachi, Ruby, Mia, Tyler, Aaron L, Aaron F, Owen, William, Shreya, Max, and Hayden have rotated across a variety of roles. Ruby and Mia continue to impress the conference team, often being mistaken for full-time staff as they expertly support events. Tyler, Owen, Aaron L, Aaron F, and William have been maintaining the golf course to ensure it stays in top condition, while Shreya, Erik, Hayden, and Max have been keeping the hotel grounds tidy and free of litter, adding evidence for the Duke of Edinburgh volunteering award along the way. And yes, Shreya occasionally brings a little boogie to the work, keeping spirits high!

At Holbourn House, Olivia and Aleeza continue to thrive, supporting nursery activities and building strong relationships with both staff and children. Feedback from the nursery has been overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the learners’ dedication and reliability.

Students from Pathway 1 & 2 recently joined the Daventry Litter Wombles for a community litter pick. Monika and her team were thrilled with how quickly and enthusiastically the learners got involved, showing excellent teamwork and energy.

We are also celebrating some exciting new placements secured by our learners:

Ben and Mia had informal interviews at the Rainbows Charity Shop in Daventry town and have both successfully secured volunteering placements starting after half-term.

Leah completed an informal interview with Born To Perform, where she will join the team in choreographing sessions ahead of the end-of-year show.

At Daventry Hill School (DHS), work experience is more than just time spent in a workplace; it is a carefully supported, meaningful pathway that builds confidence, independence and future ambition.

In line with the government’s modern work experience agenda, we are committed to ensuring that every learner has access to high-quality, purposeful and inclusive experiences that reflect real employment environments. Modern work experience is about more than observation; it is about participation, contribution and understanding what the world of work truly offers.

For us, work experience is not confined to a single moment in the academic calendar. While we recognise the benefits of the traditional two-week block placement, delivered in isolation, it often does not provide the depth of understanding or sustained skill development that many learners need.

That is why we promote and deliver work experience throughout the entire academic year. A longer-term, structured approach allows learners to build familiarity, confidence and competence over time, rather than feeling overwhelmed by a short, intensive placement.

By working closely with employers, we ensure placements are planned at times that align with organisational needs and operational requirements. This flexible, partnership-led model benefits both learners and employers, creating meaningful, manageable and impactful experiences that support real progression.

At Creating Tomorrow Trust, we believe that supporting our learners also means supporting the families around them. Families play a vital role in young people’s lives, and when they feel confident, valued and empowered, the impact can be felt across the whole community.

That’s why we are proud to offer a growing adult learning programme in both the West and North of the county, designed to support families with self-development, wellbeing and the opportunity to explore new interests and skills in a welcoming and supportive environment.

This recognition celebrates the school’s strong commitment to delivering meaningful, inclusive and aspirational Future Readiness education, ensuring that learners are supported to explore a wide range of future pathways, including apprenticeships, in ways that are accessible and relevant to their individual needs.

Celebrating High-Quality Future Readiness Education

Being named Officially Amazing highlights the thoughtful and strategic approach Daventry Hill School takes to Future Readiness. Creating Tomorrow sites have a strong emphasis on helping learners understand the world of work, develop confidence, and explore realistic pathways that support their aspirations, strengths and ambitions.

We believe it is never too early to start inspiring and supporting our young people to explore the different routes available to them in the future, and this begins at the age of 4 for some.

Apprenticeships form an important part of this conversation. By promoting apprenticeships as a valuable and achievable option, the school helps learners and families to see them as a credible route into employment, training and long-term independence.

This work is embedded across the school’s wider careers programme and aligns with national best practice, ensuring learners receive consistent, high-quality guidance and opportunities as they prepare for adulthood.

A Collective Effort

This achievement is very much a team effort. A huge thank you goes to the dedicated staff at Daventry Hill School who work tirelessly to create engaging, learner-centred future readiness provision. Their commitment ensures that future readiness is not a one-off activity, but an ongoing journey that evolves alongside learners’ needs.

We are equally grateful to our engaged learners, whose enthusiasm, curiosity and willingness to try new experiences bring this work to life, and to our employer and training provider partners, whose support helps turn aspirations into meaningful opportunities.

Strong partnerships are at the heart of this success, enabling learners to access real-world insight, explore different industries and build confidence through supported experiences.

This week, colleagues from across our trust came together to take part in a Careers Impact System: Peer-to-Peer Review, wonderfully facilitated by Sarah Latimer from the South Midlands Careers Hub.

The peer-to-peer review model rolled out by the Careers and Enterprise Company is designed to support settings in reflecting on their careers provision, celebrating what is working well, and identifying opportunities for further development. Grounded in collaboration and shared learning, it provides a supportive space for education settings to learn from one another while keeping learners firmly at the heart of the conversation.

It was truly inspiring to see those involved showcase the thoughtful, learner-centred approaches they are taking to careers education. Staff confidently highlighted the meaningful activities, employer engagement and personalised pathways that are having a real and lasting impact on learners’ confidence, aspirations and preparation for adulthood.

It was lovely to meet colleagues from Maplefields School in Corby, who shared some fantastic examples of their own practice. Hearing how other settings approach career education for SEND learners was refreshing and energising, reminding us of the power of coming together as a wider education community.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity to explore not just what construction work involves, but how people stay safe while doing it.

Ollie delivered an accessible and interactive presentation on the importance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and why it plays such a crucial role in keeping everyone safe on construction sites. For our learners, understanding safety in real-world environments is an essential part of preparing for future pathways, whether that leads to employment, further training, or building independence and awareness.

They are built carefully, collaboratively, and with a shared commitment to ensuring opportunities are genuinely beneficial for everyone involved. Our developing partnership with ID Logistics is a brilliant example of this approach in action.

Before any learners stepped onto site, a significant amount of behind-the-scenes work took place. Teams from Creating Tomorrow and ID Logistics worked closely together to align expectations, understand individual needs, and ensure the partnership was rooted in inclusion, clarity and shared purpose. This groundwork has been vital in making sure the opportunities being created are supportive, realistic and valuable both for learners and for the employer.
